The role is responsible for ensuring data quality, compliance with client requirements and industry standards, and supporting accurate data processing and interpretation. Reporting to the Head of Operations and, when offshore, to the Party Chief, the Marine Scientist may undertake a variety of project roles, including Party Chief for suitably experienced personnel.

The Marine Scientist conducts surveys using specialized equipment, including:

  • Geophysical: Multibeam and Single-Beam Echosounders (MBES/SBES), Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub-Bottom Profiler (SBP), Ultra High-Resolution Seismic (UHRS), Magnetometer (MAG), and similar systems.
  • Geotechnical: Cone Penetration Test (CPT), Vibrocorer (VC), Piston Corer (PC), Gravity Corer (GC), and related equipment.

The successful candidate has experience with multiple geophysical and/or geotechnical systems and demonstrates a willingness to expand their technical expertise.

  • Mobilize, calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot survey equipment and associated software.
  • Acquire, monitor, process, interpret, and quality-control bathymetric, geophysical, geotechnical, seismic, and navigation data.
  • Collect accurate information on seabed conditions, water depth, and underwater obstructions.
  • Configure and test acquisition and processing systems to ensure reliable operation.
  • Lead or supervise equipment deployment and recovery activities.
  • Conduct cross-validation checks and identify data anomalies, artifacts, noise, and errors.
  • Generate and interpret survey deliverables, including bathymetric charts, digital terrain models (DTMs), seabed feature assessments, and hazard identification.
  • Prepare and maintain survey documentation, procedures, quality records, reports, and equipment configuration logs in compliance with project and industry standards.
  • Support survey preparation, reporting, and online survey system configuration in collaboration with the Survey Manager and Data Coordinator.
  • Work closely with offshore and onshore teams to ensure data quality and project objectives are achieved.
