The Opportunity

As the Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Sustainability, reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Team, you will lead and drive compliance, safety, and sustainability initiatives across Tradebe’s U.S. operations, including 9 processing facilities and 23 service centers. In this role you will be combining strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You’ll work closely with regulatory agencies, develop EHS tools, and drive the company’s sustainability goals. Key EH&S leadership will report to you as you elevate Tradebe’s EHS performance across the industry.

 

Ideally, you will be based at our Chicago, IL, Merrillville, IN, or Meriden, CT location. However, we are open to other locations based on experience.

Key Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and lead a team of EHS professionals empowered to deliver on EHS compliance and sustainability needs and objectives through influence, relationship building and knowledge
  • Identify, develop, and execute national EHS programs and training that provide employees with the necessary tools to implement safe and environmentally compliant practices and procedures throughout Tradebe to achieve operational excellence
  • Influence site leadership across multiple facilities and functions including Operations, Sales, Customer Service and Transportation to drive effective EHS compliance and Sustainability
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and develop best practices for all aspects of EHS performance and compliance, including permit management, compliance auditing, corrective action investment, key performance indicators measurement, and remediation
  • Be a key partner in the long-term planning, evaluation, development and integration of acquisitions, expansions, and redevelopment projects, including managing critical relationships with public decision-makers
  • Build and maintain relationships with key EHS stakeholders including customers, suppliers, industry coalitions, environmental groups, and sustainability professionals
  • Execute appropriate risk management processes, including insurance policy applications and approvals and negotiation and settlement of claims within proscribed limits of liability and managing other claims and lawsuits as directed by and in collaboration with the General Counsel
  • Expertise in all aspects of CAA, CWA, RCRA, EPCRA, OSHA, DOT, state analogs a must
  • Manage remediation projects utilizing best practices to achieve closure on time and on budget
  • Interact with the appropriate local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and municipal leaders as needed

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, EHS or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years EHS program development, employee development and leadership experience; with a focus on environmental compliance
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a member of executive leadership team, partnering with C-Suite executives
  • Ability to travel by plane or car up to 75% of the time
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including successfully leading, developing and mentoring others
  • Ability to align strategic business objectives with individual projects
  • Proven track record of influencing across an organization to stand up new programs and initiatives
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple and competing objectives
  • Results-oriented and driven work style
  • Excellent task-oriented follow through to completion
