SHEQ Manager
About Chemicals | Tradebe Chemicals offers a global sourcing of chemicals, innovative development of new and/ or existing products, process optimization, flexible chemical processing to a high specification (standard, complex and multi-step) and the safe delivery of chemicals through our established delivery network. In addition, we also offer ancillary services including storage, filling, packaging and labelling.
Main purpose of job:
The primary function is to support the Site Manager to ensure that the Sunderland site operates safely and effectively in line with current legislation and Tradebe policies and procedures. Primary functions are the effective implementation, ongoing maintenance and monitoring of SHQ processes, the day to day control of SHQ processes on-site and in the key site functions (production, lab & engineering). To lead on compliance / incident software data input, reporting and analysis.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Safety
- Process Safety
- Support Environmental Manager to maintain effective hazard identification and risk assessment programme;
- Aid implementation of risk reduction measure;
- Assist in assessments of new enquiries / customers for pre-acceptance suitability and in management of change processes;
- Liaise where requested with authorities, regulatory and other bodies to ensure legal compliance;
- Ensure ongoing compliance with any relevant emergency plans;
- Report as soon as possible in the event of incidents, dangerous occurrences and significant near miss events.

- Personal Safety
- Ensure SHEQ requirements are effectively communicated through site inductions and manage SHEQ competency programmes;
- Ensure effective control of contractors in matters pertaining to SHEQ performance;
- Ensure suitable risk assessments exist and that risks are suitably minimised;
- Ensure compliance with relevant H&S legislation as provided in Tradebe’s register of relevant H&S legislation;
- Conduct accident investigations, share knowledge with other sites and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed appropriately;
- Report monthly on personal safety performance and as soon as practicable on any actual or potential lost time injuries or significant near misses.
- Health
- Support the Chemical Exposure Monitoring Programmes (COSHH);
- Implement the Occupational Health Surveillance Programmes;
- Conduct noise & vibration exposure monitoring; ensure suitable control systems are in place for legionella and asbestos control as relevant;
- Ensure compliance with relevant other H&S legislation as provided in Tradebe’s register of relevant H&S legislation;
- Report monthly on Employee Health Performance and immediately on any health issues.
3. Environment
- Support department to ensure ongoing compliance with Environmental Permits and other relevant environmental legislation;
- Aid management of the sites’ environmental monitoring programmes;
- Support the site energy management programmes and ensure compliance with relevant programmes and targets;
- Conduct investigations into near misses, incidents and complaints, ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are completed;
- As required, report monthly on environmental performance and as soon as possible on any significant issues / events.
- Quality
- Drive Sites target to achieve improving GMP status;
- Support the sites’ quality management system;
- Host Duty of Care Visits with Customers and conduct Duty of Care audits of suppliers where required;
- Progress the investigation and resolution of customer complaints;
- Report monthly on quality performance and as soon as practicable on any significant quality issues.
- Management Systems
- Maintain an effective and efficient management system
- Implement the sites’ internal audit programme;
- Periodically review all aspects of the systems and recommend changes to maintain the relevance of procedures and documents in achieving the aims outlined in the Tradebe policy documents;
- Assist in site SHEQ training and competency programmes;
- Assist in site and SHEQ CI programmes.
