Production Manager

In addition, we also offer ancillary services including storage, filling, packaging and labelling.



The Production Manager will possess a comprehensive range of chemical plant knowledge and management experience, ideally with suitable engineering/chemistry qualifications to provide effective support and control over management systems, equipment and processes.


The role will require strong people skills with extensive experience of training and assessing competence. Experience and knowledge gained working within top-tier CoMAH regulations including corresponding environmental, health and safety legislative requirements is fundamental to this role.



To be responsible to the Site Manager for:

  1. Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations, all relevant Quality Assurance and Environmental Procedures
  2. Promote a positive health and safety culture by maintaining audit-ready sites through sustaining good housekeeping standards, wearing correct PPE, reporting any observed near misses and isolating any unsafe situations
  3. Work with the Production & Scheduling Manager ensuring that production and logistical plans are fully communicated and followed by operational teams
  4. Work with the Business Processes Manager with responsibility for the implementation and management of operational Key Performance Indicators for production rates and yields, demurrage, OTIF, age of stock and stock control
  5. Work closely with shift teams to identify and explore opportunities for continuous improvement of the site to improve aspects of safety, environmental, cost and operational performance
  6. Accountable for the control of site costs with regards to production consumables, waste disposal costs, reagents and utility consumption. Continuously working to improve through implementing KPIs and improving using CI initiatives
  7. Review and appraise production staff as part of their personnel development, developing action plans, potential reward schemes and identifying training needs
  8. Managing all aspect of the production department HR confirming that all absenteeism and disciplinary issues are collated and reported, including the identification and management of any under performance as per Tradebe procedures
  9. Manage the operational team staffing levels ensuring sufficient and competent manning is available for holiday, sickness and training cover in order to operate process plant safely
  10. Manage the issuing of all Permit To Work on site ensuring suitable control measures and isolations are defined by production staff. Issue high level hot and confined space entry permits as required to Tradebe procedures
  11. Ensure all operational site testing, monitoring and control of site emissions as per consent agreements are correctly completed and adhered to. Additionally that effective communication channels and approvals are used for any adjustments and or deviations
  12. Responsible to ensure all Non-Conforming materials coming into site or produced are correctly managed and as appropriate accepted or rejected as per  Tradebe procedures
  13. Ensure that shift teams are reporting all equipment defects and alarms, and that any such issues are appropriately handled, i.e. all unsafe items are suitably isolated and communicated
  14. Support to the engineering team to aid with design input, task / risk assessments, and to lead and manage commissioning / snagging of reinstated or newly installed equipment
  15. Review and approve Management of Change (MoC) requests; fully assessing proposed changes from an operation perspective, including sign off once installed and complete
  16. Ensure change management (MoC) is followed and used to control equipment modifications and procedural / personnel changes
  17. Responsible for ensuring all wastes generated on site are managed efficiently and disposed of in a timely fashion in line with current legislation and good practise
  18. To be available out of hours to provide a reasonable level of answers to production queries from site
  19. Assist Site Manager in all aspects of their work and deputise production related duties in peoples absence



  1. Set out standards so that production plant is operated in a manner conducive to good Health, Safety and Environmental practices, paying particular attention to regular housekeeping, environmental checks and audits programmes, confirming that all defects or issues are reported
  2. Housekeeping standards are maintained around the plant in accordance with best practises, with particular focus on compliance with DSEAR
  3. Working with the Production and Schedule & Business Processes Managers to achieve efficient and optimised performance of production plants / equipment whilst ensuring all are operated safely as per operating instructions
  4. Manage operational teams to best utilise labour resource to minimise delays while materials are loaded /unloaded whilst maintaining operational requirements
  5. Ensure in-process test equipment is correctly operated as per test methods and is correctly maintained and calibrated using suitably prepared standards
  6. Establish that operating instructions and technical documents cover all regular routines and are regularly reviewed keeping them up to date to include the latest available data, guidance and best practises
  7. Responsible for operational teams completing checks and documentation to ensure that plant / processes are safely and efficiently operated whilst complying with all health, safety and environmental requirements
  8. Utilise operational teams using the PROUD ethos to review and assess risks associated with everyday tasks and operations, ensuring that assessments are in place, suitable and up to date
  9. Manage production input into COSHH, hazard and risk assessments ensuring they are reflecting actual methods used and review every 3 years. Audit the outcome of any assessment actions by checking their inclusion in relevant documentation and whilst task is being performed
  10. Managing operational teams to provide effective control over consumables and reagents to safeguard uninterrupted processing whilst balancing against inventory levels and cost
  11. Establishing robust instructions to meet specific requirements with regards to performing suitable cleaning and preparation of plant / equipment prior to handing over processing customer materials (avoiding any contamination)
  12. Suitable cleaning, isolations and preparation of plant and equipment through specifying adequate draining and cleaning prior to handing over for maintenance work
  13. Manage the site water effluent discharge through appropriate procedures and controls. Responsible for operators performing required sampling, transfers and checks ensuring that discharge routes are managed within guidance parameters
  14. Manage the VOC scrubbing system through appropriate procedures and controls. Responsible for operators performing required checks and sampling ensuring that the system is operated within the technical document guidance parameters
  15. To approve production purchase orders within SAP and to make sure that all orders are progressed in a timely fashion to maintain suitable stock levels on site
  16. Succession planning through the development of operational teams with associated progression plans. Requirements include maintaining suitable training records; including competency assessments, managing training needs and performance monitoring
  17. Encourage good communications and reporting from shift teams to provide timely feedback on shift activities, any handover faults, breakdowns, isolations in place, accidents, incidents or near misses that have occurred, including any alarms activated
  18. In the event of a Major Accident Hazard scenario if the most senior person on site to act as the Site Incident Controller (SIC) or provide support to the SIC in the event of the emergency services being called to site
