The Mechanical Engineer will possess a comprehensive range of processing plant knowledge ideally with >2 years management / Supervisory experience. Ideally qualified with a mechanical engineering degree to provide effective support and control over maintenance activities, systems, equipment and processes.

The role will require a strong multi discipline diverse background with experience gained working on either a CoMAH or PSSR site managing assets and utilities all within corresponding appropriate environmental, health & safety legislative requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that all assigned duties and tasks are carried out in compliance with statutory legal requirements and the company quality, health & safety and environmental policies
  2. Promote a positive health and safety culture by ensuring good housekeeping standards are used, correct PPE is being worn and that any near miss, incident or accidents are made safe and reported
  3. Adherence to Tradebe policies and procedures ensuring that all necessary documentation for routine checks and calibrations are performed whilst maintaining the required standards
  4. Assist Maintenance team to ensure the safe, standardised and efficient maintenance of all plant and equipment as per planned routines and statutory requirements, including the completion of all documentation to satisfy these requirements
  5. Working with Engineering Manager to plan shutdown work and intrusive safety critical jobs with associated test bodies and departments ensuring that all equipment is up to date and defects are suitably managed
  6. Ensure that all project plans, improvements, repairs and shutdown works are performed to the appropriate standard, ensuring coordination of resources for the flawless execution of works to agreed timescales including appropriate hand over after completion
  7. Contribute as required to raise capital asset requests including design input, the provision of technical and process data, specification requirements, procurement, contractor quotations, formal contract agreements, delivery, commissioning and assessing resource requirements
  8. Work closely with Engineering teams to actively encourage the identification of appropriate upgrades, modifications or enhanced maintenance routines to maximise and maintain plant availability and efficiency
  9. All engineering activities must follow Tradebe permit to work procedures ensuring that a permit to work covers all work on plant. This must include a suitable risk assessment and method statements (or task instruction) covering all the hazards including access requirements, competency assessment, prerequisites for cleaning and isolations prior to starting task
  10. Regularly track progress and communicate progress, including potential issues, for all engineering and capex work
  11. Manage the detailed planning of materials/equipment deliveries and any additional resource involved with either preparation or planned works for maintenance activities or shutdown works
  12. Ensure all contract labour is fully aware of site activities and hazards, include their own responsibility to make safe any potentially unsafe situations by stopping tasks to isolate / communicate issues as appropriate
  13. Promote  Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities to improve plant and equipment operation / reliability and control through contributions from production department and regular review of breakdown and spares data
  14. Champion engineering CI projects utilising the techniques and approach used within six sigma including regular updates and presentation of progress
  15. As required participate in MOC reviews, hazard studies, risk assessments and accident investigations as required
  16. Follow Tradebe change management (MOC) system by ensuring that all engineering activities have been assessed against Tradebe procedures ensuring no impact to operation or statutory requirements prior to the engineering team physically performing tasks
  17. Regularly review inspection and breakdown data striving to improve plant availability by reducing any downtime and maximising efficiency whilst identifying any potential CI opportunities to improve control, operation or maintenance
  18. Ensure all waste generated through engineering activities is disposed of timely and efficiently in-line with current legislation
  19. Assist Engineering Manager in all aspects of his work and deputise as required in his absence

 

  1. Role
  1. Define standards so that all work is undertaken in a manner conducive to good Health, Safety and Environmental practices, paying particular attention to housekeeping by regular auditing programmes and confirming that all defects are correctly reported and managed
  2. Housekeeping standards are maintained around the plant in accordance with best practises, with particular focus to compliance with DSEAR
  3. To communicate the KPI’s of the department through provision of regular performance monitoring data as well as a monthly summaries to the Engineering manager
  4. Aiding and guiding Engineering Supervisor to develop suitable task instructions and technical documents to cover all regular routines, and that these are kept up to date to include the latest available data, guidance and best practises
  5. Provide suitable time and resource to appropriately manage hazard, risk and COSHH assessments as required, reviewing findings and inclusion of all control aspects into relevant documentation and training plans
  6. Control the provision of suitable documentation, competent resource and approval for all engineering Permit to Work requests as per Tradebe procedures, including monitoring to ensure that all works are performed as per expected site safety standards
  7. Encourage and challenge engineering team to optimise plant / equipment to maximise group profitability whilst ensuring they follow correct and approved task instructions
  8. Engineering team is completing appropriate documentation and following all identified task instructions to safely and efficiently maintain plant whilst complying with all health, safety and environmental requirements
  9. Review, assess and plan as required capex projects for new plant and or equipment coming to site, working closely with supplier to supply appropriate information, timelines and documentation
  10. Create clear and concise plans to execute and monitor progress of routine tasks, equipment repairs and project work to keep site management team up to date
  11. Encourage good communications and reporting from engineering teams providing timely feedback on tasks, any remaining faults, breakdowns, isolations in place and any accidents, incidents or near misses that have occurred
  12. Track departmental spend aiming to keep within set budget through highlighting any significant spends in advance and weekly forecast reporting to the Engineering Manager
  13. Controlled documents are suitably managed; all updates are approved / updated on SAP, reviewed periodically and are issued to teams as appropriate
  14. In the event of a Major Accident Hazard scenario if the most senior person on site to act as the Site Incident Controller (SIC) or provide support to the SIC in the event of the emergency services being called to site
