Profile

The Warmalite Yard operator will possess a range of fork lift and road barrel discharging and loading operating skills. Experience and knowledge gained working within the chemical sector including corresponding environmental, health and safety legislative requirements is fundamental to this role.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Operation of the air compressors, VOC system and nitrogen system as per process technical documentation.
  2. Operate equipment as directed by the shift manager ensuring that all coaching and training is carefully followed, reference should be made to technical documents.
  3. Provide month end stock levels for use on stock takes.
  4. Provide cover for colleague’s holidays as requested by the holiday request system highlighting to shift manager any issues, similarly ensure requests are made with sufficient notice and that cover is provided for your own holidays in advance.
  5. Highlight to the shift manager any issues with the maintenance teams or contractors working on site under the permit to work system.
  6. Support to the shift manager in an emergency situation out of hours in the event of an on-site incident.
  7. Reporting all equipment defects and alarms to the shift manager ensuring unsafe items are suitably isolated and communicated.
  8. Monitor and control off site emissions as per consent limits, communicating all deviations/adjustments to the shift manager.
  9. Promote a positive health and safety culture by maintaining good housekeeping standards, wearing correct PPE, reporting any near misses observed and isolating any unsafe situations.
  10. Striving to improve plant operation and control through continuous improvement suggestions and participation in initiatives.

 

Role

  1. Manage on-site transport movements to control the positioning and number of vehicles on site at any one time.
  2. Take sufficient precautions to remove potential for human contact when acting as a banksman for reversing vehicles into position and also when using the fork lift truck to off load drum/IBC loads.
  3. Ensure that Syngenta contract barrels are repositioned using the site shunter or Syngenta contract drivers to permit the safe operation of the loading bays throughout the day.
  4. Measure tank levels prior to starting any discharge and updating stock control system after loading and discharging road barrels.
  5. Ensure all paperwork is correctly completed by the laboratory prior to off-loading into the tank assigned by the shift manager or Hendon management.
  6. All transfers are supervised and transfer pumps and pipework are suitably conditioned.
  7. All product loading line samples must be sampled and laboratory approved prior any transfer.
  8. Product barrels must be visually inspected and cleaning certification inspected and reviewed/approved prior to loading.
  9. Regularly monitor and review discharge and loading operations for any non-standard deviations thus ensuring that the equipment is operating both safely and as per technical documents.
  10. All process connections and alignments using flexible hoses are correctly set-up and installed, they must be doubly checked prior to use.
  11. Housekeeping standards are maintained around the loading bays and in particular when using flexible hoses.
  12. Adequate equipment and line draining is undertaken prior to changing over materials thus avoiding any contamination.
  13. As stipulated by shift manager suitable cleaning, isolations and handover to maintenance and or contractors of plant equipment through the permit to work system.
  14. Assess risks associated with everyday tasks and operations ensuring that assessments in place are suitable and up to date.
  15. In the event of a Major Accident Hazard scenario support the shift manager in the event of the emergency services being called to site.
  16. Always use the earth connection on all barrel transfers to and from storages, and to generally be aware of potential static issues from equipment and materials.
  17. Minimise site emissions through the correct venting of plant and blowing clear of flexible hoses, equipment and road barrels using the site VOC system.
  18. As instructed by shift manager ensure that all daily checks are performed including equipment rotation and reporting any faults onto the maintenance system.
  19. Communicate all activities and any faults, breakdowns, isolations, near misses or alarms to the shift manager.
