The main purpose of this role is to check all inbound drums, pallets and IBC contents are as described on transport documentation and take samples for on-site analysis
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide cover holiday and sickness cover for the Laboratory shift chemists, as necessary and possibly at short notice.
- Liaise with other members of the shift team and Shift Managers to ensure that information is being communicated effectively, in particular during shift change via the shift changeover logbook.
- Ensure that non-conforming materials are flagged up and a course of action is decided and that the relevant personnel are informed of the problem.
- Promote a high standard of health and safety within the department, through own actions and by instruction to others.
- Make relevant continuous improvement suggestions to supervisors / management.
- Ensure that equipment issues are reported in a timely fashion and highlight delays in repair etc.
- Ensure that samples of drum materials are taken promptly to minimise the potential for demurrage.
- Ensure that only drums and pallets which are safe for storage are accepted onto site and placed in the appropriate storage areas once accepted.
- Provide cover for goods receipting of materials outside of office hours. This to include point of contact for drivers, booking materials onto and off site and completion of paperwork.
- Ensure that any problems encountered with receipts are communicated effectively. This will include reporting superfluous lines and material not as expected
- Provide cover in the laboratory if required
- In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Please note that this role requires working outside, in all weather.

Knowledge:
- A good understanding of analytical chemistry
- Special functional knowledge and experience
- Cross-functional understanding
Other Essential Skills:
- Practical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management, reporting, and communication skills
- A strong commitment to and understanding of environmental and occupational health and safety management systems
Desirable Skills:
- An understanding of IT systems, such as SAP and Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- An understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and an ability to observe the requirements of the Company Safety Policy and other relevant legislation
