The Opportunity

 

Join our team as an Approval Chemist in Merrillville, IN, where you'll play a vital role in managing waste streams for a diverse range of customers nationwide. In this role, you'll analyze detailed waste specifications, navigate complex federal regulations, and collaborate with a supportive, team-oriented group to determine the most effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Apply knowledge of EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations to accurately classify waste based on plant processing capabilities.
  • Identify the optimal treatment solutions for various waste types, including inbound and outbound loads and lab packs.
  • Manage a shared inbox, responding efficiently to high-volume inquiries from customers, customer experience teams, and operations.
  • Oversee nationwide customer off-spec waste approvals.
  • Ensure all waste is managed legally, safely, and cost-effectively.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of waste approvals and keep all records up to date.

Qualifications

 

Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or a related science

 

Experience: 1-2 years industry experience preferred  

 

Skills: 

  • Computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
