Business Development Manager

Mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Manager to join our team in the environmental services and hazardous waste industry. This critical role is a hunter position, focused on winning new customers and driving profitable revenue through long-term contracts.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the waste and materials management industry, along with a proven track record of securing large customers who remain with the business long-term. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing mid- to large-sized customers, setting them up for success, and seamlessly transitioning them to account managers for long-term relationship management.
Location: You must reside in the Midwest region; Greater Chicago area is preferred.
Travel: 50% travel required.
What You'll Do
- Prospect and Identify Opportunities - Actively seek out and identify new business opportunities within the hazardous waste sector, focusing on mid- to large-sized clients.
- Develop Relationships - Build and nurture strong relationships with potential customers through networking, cold calling, and participation in industry events.
- Conduct Sales Presentations - Deliver tailored presentations that highlight our hazardous waste services and clearly demonstrate the value we bring to clients.
- Lead Negotiations - Manage the full sales cycle—from initial contact through contract execution and onboarding—emphasizing value differentiation, partnership, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
- Collaborate Across Teams - Partner with internal departments, including Sales, Sales Operations & Strategy, Operations, and Compliance, to ensure alignment on client needs, service offerings, and Tradebe’s value proposition.
- Set Up Customers for Success - Oversee the onboarding of new clients, ensuring they have the tools, support, and resources needed to begin service smoothly and effectively.
- Seamless Client Transition - Transition new customers to Account Managers and Customer Experience team members by providing detailed documentation of client expectations and service requirements. Ensure a positive handoff and strong customer satisfaction.
- Conduct Market Research - Stay up to date on industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes that could impact potential clients or our offerings.
- Maintain Reporting and Analysis - Keep accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and market insights in the CRM system. Provide regular updates and strategic insights to management.
What You'll Need
- Industry Experience - Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development and/or sales within the environmental services or hazardous waste industry, with a proven track record of securing new mid- to large-sized customers.
- Sales Expertise - Demonstrated sales acumen with the ability to identify opportunities, negotiate contracts, close deals, and transition relationships smoothly to Account Managers and Customer Experience teams.
- Relationship Management - Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain strong relationships across a diverse client base and key stakeholders.
- Communication Skills - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and persuasively convey complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Analytical Thinking - Strong analytical mindset to evaluate market conditions and customer needs, and to develop effective, strategic sales plans.
- Self-Motivation - Highly motivated and driven, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Education - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
Work Environment
Home-based role with professional home office set up. >50% travel required across the assigned region.
What Does the Interview Process Look Like
We believe in a transparent hiring process that values everyone’s time and engagement. Candidates should expect the hiring process to follow the order below. At any point in the process, candidates may be declined.
- Selected candidates who have completed the application will be invited to schedule a 30-minute screening call via phone call with of our Recruiters.
- Next, candidates will be scheduled for 1-4 team members representing critical stakeholders for the Business Development Manager role. This will include the Director of Sales for the region and can also include Commercial partners and the HRBP.
- Finally, candidates will be scheduled for a 30-minute interview with the EVP of Sales.
