Landfill Heavy Equip Operator

Job description

The Landfill Equipment Operator operates a wide variety of heavy machines and vehicles that perform the spreading and compaction of industrial waste disposed on-site. The Landfill Equipment Operator will reports to the Operations Superintendent as well as receive regular, daily instruction from the Landfill Manager.

Key job responsibilities

• Performing routine assignments in the safe operation of heavy equipment used in landfill operations and maintenance, as well as general civil work construction and maintenance;
• Successfully operate a variety of heavy-duty equipment with considerable care and attention as well as experience (i.e. motor graders, bulldozers, heavy compactors, loaders, excavators, back-hoes, trucks);
• Prepare, maintain and present work order, equipment maintenance and safety reports as required;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
•    3-5 years experience in landfill operations highly preferred.
•    Considerable skills in the safe operation and use of heavy construction and trucking equipment typically used for landfills and other civil works;
•    Exhibit initiative and responsibility as well as an understanding of the capabilities of the equipment being operated;
•    Knowledge, skill and ability in the oepration, maintenance and service of equipment at the work site, or when the equipment is in the shop for repair, servicing and/or maintenance;
•    Ability to carry out written or oral instructions;
•    Formal trade school training in the operation of heavy construction and trucking equipment is desirable.
•    High school degree or GED
•    Previous experience operating heavy equipment including bulldozers, heavy compactors, loaders, excavators, back-hoes, trucks
•    3-5 years experience in landfill operations highly preferred
